The Brabant municipality of Zundert will once again have tens of thousands of visitors on the floor. They come for the Corso Zundert, the largest of its kind in the world. Twenty neighborhoods compete with each other in a friendly competition for the most beautiful car.
The dahlia is the basic material of the corso. Millions of these flowers are needed for the twenty floats. A slight panic has developed over the past month. The prolonged drought would have limited the growth of the dahlias, resulting in an imminent shortage.
Ludo Gommers, dahliabaas van Zundert, came with reassuring words last week. There are enough dahlias, he said to Omroep Brabant.
The floats will roll through the village from 1.30 pm onwards. Each car was made by residents of another neighborhood. The vehicles may be nine meters high and 19 meters long. These maximal dimensions were established in 1989, because the scuppers went out with the size.
The corso has existed since 1936. Last year it attracted about 75,000 visitors. Apart from the parade, there is also an annual fair, a fun fair and street theater. If you want to take a look at the floats, you can go and see the exhibition on Monday.
