Mitchell van der Gaag may be the new head coach of Young Ajax, reports De Telegraaf. The club sees the 47-year-old coach as the successor to Michael Re 338, who from next season will be part of Erik ten Hag's technical staff.
Van der Gaag and Ajax are currently having conversations, the newspaper knows. Traveler takes the step to the first, but Winston Bogarde remains connected to the team of promises. The intention is that Van der Gaag and Bogarde will lead the second team.
Van der Gaag stepped on as trainer of NAC Breda in March, after the club ended up in the danger zone under his leadership. He made a big impression at Excelsior, where he was at the helm for two years and performed above expectations. Van der Gaag had various options after leaving Rotterdam-Kralingen, but opted for NAC.
Ajax appointed Marcel Keizer as head coach of Young Ajax in 2016, but the 50-year-old coach moved on after a year after the departure of Peter Bosz. Traveler took the baton, but now also makes the step to the first team.
