The American actress Peggy Lipton died at the age of 72. Lipton was best known for her role in the series Mod Squad.
The actress died "peacefully in front of her daughters and nieces," her daughters Kidada and Rashida Jones said in a statement to the American press. She suffered from cancer.
Lipton played Mod Squad the undercover police officer Julie Barnes, a role for which she received four Golden Globe nominations. In 1970 she won one for Best TV Actress in a drama series. Mod Squad was on display from 1968 to 1973.
The actress was also seen as Norma Jennings in Twin Peaks and played in the movies The Postman, The Intern and A Dog's Purpose. Lipton also had roles in the series Alias, Rules of Engagement and Psych.
From 1974 to 1990 she was married to music producer Quincy Jones, with whom she had daughters Kidada Jones and Rachida Jones. The latter is known as an actress in, among other things The Office and Parks and Recreation.
