Health experts want to prevent the disease from spreading. People on board are vaccinated against measles. Only those who have already had a shot may leave the ship.
The Freewinds is a 134-meter-long cruise ship owned by the Scientology movement. It has Curaçao as its home port. Concerts are regularly organized on the ship.
There are more than 300 people on board, all of which will be investigated. That process can "take more than a day," an epidemiologist told the AP news agency. "We have a duty to prevent the spread of the disease. If we let that happen, many people are in danger."
Reported to the doctor
The passengers and crew of the ship may be exposed to the disease. The crew member who fell ill reported to a doctor on April 22.
After the departure of the cruise ship on the 29th it became clear that she had measles. The ship was then placed in quarantine off the coast of the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, before returning to Curaçao.
