The US has imposed different tariffs for a number of imports and so far New Zealand is not one of a small number of countries for which an exemption has been granted.

Mr. Brown said he defended New Zealand's case in the context of the American exemption.

He told TV3 Newshub Nation he would be willing to use his friendship with Mr Trump to help New Zealand.

"If I have to call the president in time, I'll do it, but I do not want to use that property now because the administrative process is progressing." he said.

"I believe it should happen and I made it very clear."

Scott Brown rejected the current legal issues that some of Mr. Trump's employees experienced as & politics as usual.
