The first KiwiBuild development of the South Island has been announced for Wanaka, with 211 houses to be built in the next two years, Reverend Phil Twyford announced today in a statement.

The votes will open on 8 October for the first 10 houses in the Northlake development.

Twyford said KiwiBuild "restores the Kiwi dream of home ownership" for thousands of families priced at the housing market in the Queenstown Lakes district across the country.

"For buyers of first houses that have been excluded, KiwiBuild offers the possibility to buy an affordable, modest starter home in one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand."

The Northlake development, which borders on the township of Wanaka, will boast a community planned by the village community consisting of 800 houses with their own village center, shops, playgrounds, childcare and health centers, eateries and office space for small businesses.
