Christchurch Police is participating in a serious crash on Pages Road, Wainoni, where a person was seriously injured.
A passenger is in a critical condition after a car crashed on a Pages Road, Wainoni in a severe crash at a Powerspool.
The incident took place at about 6.00 am near Baffin Street.
Witnesses reported that three people who had been in the car had initially left the crash site but had returned by the time the police arrived.
In a statement, the police emphasized how important it is to stay on a crash scene.
"The police would like to emphasize how important it is to stay on the spot in the event of a crash and to ensure that all those involved are safe and receive the necessary medical attention."
The road is closed and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
Traffic is diverted via Baffin Street and Ottawa Road while the Serious Crash Unit is present.
A St John Ambulance spokesperson said that two vehicles attended the accident at 6.02 am and brought one person with serious injuries to the Christchurch Hospital.
