Jacqui Coombes, director of the New Zealand branch of the Australian hardware store, said Bunnings would close its Mt Roskill store while “we work with our landlord and engineers on the next steps.”
Coombes said engineers were concerned about the parking lot’s “seismic resilience”.
“Safety of [our] team and customers is the most important consideration, ”she said.
“We will make sure our team is taken care of during this time and we will redeploy them to nearby stores or provide individual options that work for them.”
Customers can shop at other stores or have items delivered to their homes, Coombes said.
