Everything you need to know about quickly charging an electric car

It can take months and years before an electric car is bought, until you have to drive your car faster.

But when you first arrive and leave for the first time, it can seem strange and difficult. Especially if you use the petrol pump as a reference point.

Quick chargers do not work in the same way. Paying in a card machine is a rarity.

Instead, you must relate to apps, text messages, invoices and other solutions.

It could be a blissful chaos, but the reality is that today you only have to relate to two top three suppliers.

It is the Finnish Fortum Charge & Drive, the largest fast-charging operator in the country, followed by Green Contact. In addition, the energy company BKK has a number of fast charging stations, especially in Western Norway. BKK also drives loading stations to Lyse and has taken charge of charging stations elsewhere in Southern Norway.

Note that we do not accept Teslas Supercharger drives in this article.

In short, it does not matter where you stop to accelerate. You will be able to leave anywhere.

It is not necessary to have an existing customer relationship in advance and it is not necessary to determine a subscription or similar costs.

1. Park the car in the right way

Drive to the charging station and park so that the cord to the charging station reaches the car.

Then make sure that you have parked so that you do not prevent others from charging. Note that some charging stations allow multiple charging points at the same station at the same time.

Most fast chargers have two fixed connectors. Some also have an extra connection for flexible charging.

2. Select the correct charging socket

In practice there are four loading jackets to choose from: CHAdeMO, CCS and Type 2.

CHAdeMO is used on cars from Nissan (Leaf, eNV2000), Kia Soul, Mitsubishi i-Miev, Citroën C-Zero or Peugeot Ion.

CCS (also called Combo) is roughly used for all other electric cars that can be fasted, with the exception of Renault.

Type 2 is the standard charging plug that is used for standard charging and faster charging. Also called flex charging.

The Renault Zoe car model can use Type 2 outputs for quick loading, provided the car is a Q model. No Renault Zoe sold new in Norway after 2016 is Q models, and can not be fasted.

Note that the Type 2 connector fits many cars and that it can work with it. If you use this on a car that can not be loaded with high power via Type (22 kilowatts or more), the car will still be slow. This costs a lot of money unnecessarily.

Type 2 is also used for semi-tax. This is supplied at charging stations where there is an input for your own cable. This means in practice that you must have your own charging cable to charge here. It must have a Type 2 connector on both sides.

Type 2 semi-load is only used in rough draft by Tesla and Renault. Some other cars can also charge relatively fast on such chargers (11 kW).

In practice there is only one choice. No car has both CHAdeMO and CCS contacts. Do you have one of the components is type 2 charger with wired cable or cable cable options.

Unless you have an older Renault Zoe, the best choice is to use your own cable to charge Type 2.

3. Select payment method

As mentioned, there are three payment methods in practice to choose from.

TEXT MESSAGE: Instructions for telephone numbers and procedures are on the charging station itself.

Charge card: If you are a member of the Electric Car Association, you have received a loading chip. If this works, it is assumed that you previously entered into an agreement with the charger operator and linked it to it.

Remember that you can also order loading sheets from loading operators separately.

App: At the charging station there is usually a lookup that shows which app to use if you want to pay with it. Paying with the app is in practice such as paying per card, while adding a payment card to the app.

Once you have chosen the payment method, the car starts charging.

NB! Some chargers require that you press a start button on the charger before powering the car.

4. Follow

It is advisable to follow the load along the road.

If the car leaves, you can take a break, but do not go too far away from the car. When the car is fully charged, the charger does not necessarily have to be available to other users.

In addition, there are many cars that can fully charge the battery for fast chargers.

Keep in mind that it can take a disproportionately long time to take the last 10-20 percent into account. This is because the car will reduce the power of the charger when the battery is fully approaching.

Then it costs a lot of money to take the last percentages into account.

Charging is usually the fastest when the battery is low.

In addition, it can be bad people if others wait to use the charger. If it is a queue, it is a good idea to close the load when you have enough energy to complete the drive. Alternatively, you can move your car a flexorader to take the last percentages into account.

5. Disconnect the connection

When you are ready to disconnect the charger, disconnect the plug.

The easiest way is to press a stop button on the charging station itself, stop charging the app or send a stopover to a text message.

Many cars also lock the connector, so you need to press an unlock button to remove the plug from the charger. This varies from car to car.

But if the load has ended and the connector is stuck, this is probably the problem.

The app "Bilkraft" is used by BKK and Lyse. Some other operators use the same solution.

To use the app, you must first register, but it is not necessary to leave information other than telephone numbers and payment cards.

When you are done, select & # 39; Recharge & # 39; and find the charging station in the list that you show. When you have finished loading, you will stop loading in the app.

charging chip

BKK does not have its own recovery, but you can associate the electric car charger in the "Bilkraft app".

Here you can also register any other piece. That is, as long as you know the track number, you can enter it. For example, you can use a charger from another provider to identify you.

In principle, you can register a Visa card here if you know the ID. In practice, you must have a mobile phone that can read NFC chips to find this ID.

Keep in mind that the only thing that happens is that this ID number is linked to your user profile. If you register a Visa Card ID or a loading chip from another provider, this does not mean that you will be charged.

For this, load a drawer at the charging station and you can start charging in this way.
