Trond Kjellevold is dead. He fell asleep on Saturday night in a hospital in London.

Kjellevold turned 59 and became a famous man in the restaurant industry in Bergen. In his younger years he worked in the resturant industry in Spain.

Since then he was a porter at Old Exodus in Bergen and started the tapas restaurant Escalón in Fløibanen in 1998.

It became a success story. The Escalon Group has had sales of about NOK 50 million in recent years and operates a restaurant in Oslo.

Together with Kjellevold and Pål Clausen he was responsible for the operation of Escalón.

The family told Sunday about the sad news on Kjellevold's own Facebook page. That is what it is called:

From his childhood at Landås to a contractor in the restaurant industry, there was always a radiant smile and a sharp, witty tone. His tone and behavior so memorable that even waiters in Barcelona had to tell whether our father was without doubt their favorite guest. "

The family writes about:

"Dad taught us a lot, but the importance of our family and our roots in Sogn is an important lesson that we will greatly appreciate, because Kjellevold was one of his temptations, which he devoted a lot of time and attention to. the fact that the foundation he has laid for us will remain for us for our own and future generations.

His voice and presence will be deeply missed by not only the whole family, but everyone who has met him. We sat with him until the end, holding his hand and reminding him how happy we are in him.

He is very missed

The operation of Escalón is normal, but the staff is clearly characterized.

"Trond visited his eldest son in London and got a heart attack, he fell in on Saturday night, it's hard to say anything about it, we're still in shock," says Pål Høyde.

The first Escalón restaurant was opened in 1998 alongside Fløybanen. The name Escalón is because in the 80s Kjellevold often visited a flamenco bar in Malaga, that was just "Escalón".

When he made tapas in Norway a few years later, there was no doubt about what the name of the restaurant should be on the chain's website.

"He was a contractor in the travel industry and a great guy to work with, he is greatly missed by a lot, says Hoogde.

Neither he nor the other employees had the opportunity to take good care of the boss, who was 59 years old.
