– Must catch something typical
– It was not easy. There are 667 suggestions to go through. I want a number of criteria to be met. I think the new county weapon should be simple, but it should not look like other logos. It will not be confusing with the two provincial weapons of today, says Gjerstad Nordheim.

A folk jury from Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane selected their favorites for new provincial weapons on Saturday. Later a professional jury will make a selection of his favorites. The final decision falls in December in the two district councils.

– It is important for me that the provincial weapons capture something that is typical of our region, while it is graphically recognizable and interesting, says Jarle Arnes from Bergen.

– The provincial weapons of the new province will be visible everywhere.
Both school classes, individuals and design agencies have submitted suggestions, some more serious than others.

All members of the jury have been instructed to choose five of the suggestions they like best. In the course of Saturday they agreed on ten proposals that continued.
In May of this year, Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane invited county councils to invite residents to imagine what the provincial weapons of the new Vestland province should look like. A number of proposals came in, a number of regional director Culture and Sport in the Municipality of Hordaland, Per Morten Ekerhovd, is brilliantly satisfied.

From 22 August, people can vote for one of these 20 proposals, which will become the favorite favorite. You can even have the option to vote online.
The folk favorite will be viewed together with three proposals from the jury. Then a proposal will be made for new provincial weapons.
Finally, the district councils in the provincial municipalities of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane will approve the final county coat of arms for the County of Vestland County by the end of the year.
