The weekend before the hummer season began, more than 225 illegal lobster traps were caught in a major action in Sunnhordland.
– Unmarked devices are the largest part of the attack. Some of them are illegal lobster melodies whose owner is clearly unaware, while most are simply sloppy, "said Ina Giil Solheim, director of Fisheries, who handed over 20 reviews to the police.
The Directorate for Fisheries, Coast Guard, Norwegian Conservation Authority and the police cooperated in the operation. The control areas were selected on the basis of tips, history and knowledge of the areas before, and were active in, among others, Kvinnherad, Tysnes, Stord and Bømlo.
The lobster catch starts on Monday, October 1, but at different places in the country, lobster can not be fished all year round. This year, the Fisheries Directorate is introducing 16 new areas where it is banned. This includes Lustrafjorden, Aurlandsfjorden, most of the Sogndalsfjord and Barsnesfjorden. In an area near Trollsøy in Austevoll and two areas in Flekkefjord there is a prohibition that applies without restriction.
