Everyone in the car died when a car with five people drove along County Road 651 and against a mountainside in Telemark.
The police said on the 17th Sunday that four people had died and that a person had flown to the hospital. Shortly thereafter it was confirmed that the fifth person was also dead.
"The person who fled to the Ullevål hospital after the accident unfortunately died as a result of the injuries, and all five who were in the car when the accident occurred were declared dead," said operations manager Rune Hunshamar in NTB's Southeast Police District. .
The police work to warn their relatives and can not say anything about the sex and age of the dead.
The police received for the first time a report about what was described as a serious accident on Sunday at 1.44 p.m. The car drove towards Rjukan on provincial road 651, when it drove off the road in a sharp bend of 180 degrees to the left. At least one of the five in the car was stuck.
The police currently do not know what the reason for the run-out was. Both the accident group of the Norwegian road administration and forensic investigation are present to try to find answers.
"We are working on questioning and attending witnesses who arrived early in the accident, and later we will also investigate the car and try to find out what the accident is, says Hunshamar.
The police still want to contact witnesses. They have heard that another car, possibly a gray or blue Audi A3, was early on the spot after the accident.
"We have no contact with those in this car and want to contact, Southeast Police District reports.
So far no one can drive from Gaudatoppen to Rjukan, nor from Rjukan along provincial road 651, while emergency services work locally.
"This is a very serious accident and the road will be closed for a long time," Hunshamar said.
He has no idea at the moment that the road opens again.
