macOS Big Sur – Apple confirms update issues

Update: Just before midnight, Apple announces that the problem must be fixed. MacOS downloads and iMessage should now work normally again.

Thursday night Norwegian time macOS Big Sur became available for download. The update contains a lot of news for Mac users and is free to download.

However, now 9to5Mac is reporting that more people are having trouble downloading and installing macOS Big Sur. We have also been made aware of the same.

Apple confirms error

It is not uncommon for it to be a bit slow when an update is released as the progress is great. This time it seems to be going slower than usual, and many are also experiencing that, according to 9to5Mac, they are not installed at all.

MacOS Big Sur is a relatively large 12 GB update. Despite fast internet connections, people have received a download estimate of 12-13 hours to a full seven days. Downloads that stop and downloads that fail are also reported issues.

Apple confirms the problems on its system status pages and writes late Thursday evening that they are investigating what is wrong.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple’s developer websites and iMessage are also unavailable. Some have also reported that the Apple TV app is slow to use.
