Almost a year after Apple refused Valve's first request, Steam Link is now finally available in the App Store. With the Steam Link app you can play computer games on your iPhone and iPad, Valve writes on the store page.
– Unlike the guidelines
To begin with, Valve was refused to publish the application claiming that Steam Link opens a "store in a store", which is contrary to the App Store guidelines. Apple Top Phil Schiller wrote in a mail to a customer that the application has broken a number of policy points, including related to user-generated content, application purchases and content codes.
Work together for a solution
At the same time, Schiller said the two companies worked together to find a solution, and the result is now that Steam Link is officially on the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. It works so that users can access their Steam library on iOS devices. How it is described by Valve:
"Simply connect an MFI or Steam controller to your device, connect to a computer with Steam on the same local network and start playing your existing Steam games."
Requirements are that you run an iPhone or iPad with iOS 10 or higher and for best performance, it is recommended that you connect your computer to a router with a 5 GHz or Ethernet connection. In addition, it is recommended that the iOS device is also connected to a 5GHz internet and that you are at a reasonable distance from the router.
It is not known what action Valve had to take according to the guidelines that Apple initially thought it would break.
