In the first eight months of the year, 195 reports of sexual violence were reported in the Piura region, according to the Women & # 39; s Emergency Center (CEM). This figure represents 30% more with respect to the 152 cases reported in 2017.
Of these 195 cases, 91.9% corresponds to women and 8.1% to men. Similarly, 76.4% were violations of minors, 22.1% for people between 18 and 59 years and 1.5% for persons over 60 years.

A report from the Idea Center, called & # 39; Screaming of despair of girls sexually abused in Piura & # 39 ;, reveals in the meantime that the majority of girls and adolescents between 12 and 14 years old, who were furious, chose: mothers to be fleeing, fleeing their home because they have found no justice and support, and in an uncertain way drop out, putting their lives in danger.
Milagros Mendoza, head of the ideas center, said the situation of sexual violence in the region has increased in recent months. He specified that if there were three complaints per week in 2017, the number doubled from January this year.
He added that more than 60% of the violations come from the family environment (father, stepfather, uncle or nephew), so action is needed to counter this problem.
– Between 2015 and August 2018, a total of 917 sexual violations were reported in the Piura region.
