League Against Cancer: public collection starts today Trade Lima events

From today and until Friday 7 September, the national public collection of the League against Cancer will take place. The institution, which has been developing prevention tasks for 68 years, wants to raise S / 2.5 million in these three days.

To achieve this, 10,000 volunteers will be distributed via Metropolitan Lima, Callao and 16 other cities (Arequipa, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Chincha, Cusco, Pacasmayo, Huanuco, Huaraz, Ilo, Puerto Maldonado, Moquegua, Piura, Puno, Tacna, Tingo María and Trujillo). The midwife Clerk Torres Campos, representative of the League Against Cancer, explains that the proceeds of the national collections take into account the costs of prevention tasks, because the screening services offered by their tents and mobile units are free of charge.

In 2017 he says that the division carried out 300 thousand arrests. "Through them, it was possible to detect 8,000 cancers and pre-cancers," says the specialist.

In addition, equipment collected last year for the early detection of neoplastic diseases, such as a 3D mammogram. They have also implemented the development space with the latest technology, where radiologists analyze the results of mammograms.

The urgency of these purchases is that, in women, the most common cancers are breast and cervix. In men, it is that of prostate, lungs, stomach and large intestine.

"Our most recent acquisition is a tower in the gastroenterology area for our location in Av. Brasil, where we detect gastrointestinal cancer," says the midwife.
With what is collected this year, they would buy microscopes for the field of urology and improve the teams in the oncological gynecological area of ​​that center.

They would also purchase mammographs and ultrasonic machines for their other buildings in Lima, located on the Av. Nicolás de Piérola 727, Lima, and on the Av. Angamos Este 2514, Surquillo.

Juana Sánchez Murillo, 70, said she arrived four years ago on the site of the League against Cancer of Av. Brasil looking for a diagnosis. "I had a lump in my right breast and I was scared, it was very painful and I only managed to put leaves of plantain at night, so that it drained," he recalls.

Her sister-in-law, who had had cancer, advised her to go to the Anti-Cancer League for a screening. "It was positive, I was scared, but they explained to me that it was something treatable Because I live in San Martín de Porres, I continued my treatment at the Cayetano Heredia hospital, where I followed my chemotherapy for six months. and then I was operated on, "he adds. On 22 August, Ms. Juana served three years without cancer.
