The main chronic health problems that these people report are arthritis, hypertension, asthma, rheumatism, diabetes, TB, HIV, cholesterol, among others.

84.9% of women aged 60 and over who live in Metropolitan Lima are also those who suffer the most from these diseases, followed by 82.1% who live in urban areas in the rest of the cities and 80 , 2% of the rural area.

Self-care of older adult

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) through the Life Stage strategy Mature adultrecommended people over 60 take a range of self-care measures that promote good health.

He recommended exercise with simple daily or inter-daily exercises of 30 minutes, such as walking, dancing, running, jogging, cycling, among others.

He also suggested a balanced diet, consuming fruits, vegetables, grains, fresh fish, birds, among others, drinking water throughout the day. In addition, he indicated that it is necessary to avoid harmful habits such as alcohol and tobacco use and self-medication.

Finally, the Minsa admonished it elderly maintain good health of the eyes and mouth, as well as skin, feet and other measures that provide a better quality of life.
