Ozamis, archbishop, elect Martin Jumoad (Veritas / MANILA BULLETIN)
Ozamiz, archbishop Martin Jumoad, said: "I am in favor of the extension of martial law, provided the constitution of our country is the basis," he said in an interview.
When asked if he thinks that martial law is still effective in maintaining peace and order amidst the recent bomb explosion in Sultan Kudarat, Jumoad said: "There are always lapses and we are just human beings."
Personally, the Ozamiz prelate said he was happy with the soldiers and police officers in the detachment, because they are very well disciplined.
"I'm happy with our soldiers and policemen in the detachments," Jumoad said. "They are very respectful and courteous, well disciplined and ready to implement the rule of law," he added.
Unlike Jumoad, another bishop is not. Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo said that the idea of extending the martial law is no longer necessary.
"No to the extension of martial law, no longer needed, for three reasons expansion will only send false impressions to the outside world that peace and order in Mindanao will be out of control. stand-alone incident that the PNP can solve, and finally the martial law is suspicious of the ability of LGU to govern, "he told Radyo Veritas, a church-run organization.
Earlier, executive secretary Salvador Medialdea said that extending martial law could be an "option" in the aftermath of the recent bomb explosion in Sultan Kudarat.
