PAGADIAN CITY – A candle factory was razed to the ground by a fire on Wednesday morning where a worker was killed and two others were wounded.
Authorities said the fire started in the Bryant Milling and Marketing candle factory in Barangay Carangan, Ozamiz City around 10:29.
Acting City Fire Marshall SFO4 Rolando Bondaco Jr. identified the fatality as Mitchell Lou Ramayrat, who supervised the operation of the factory that was, produced candles and straws.
Researchers said that workers cooked paraffin wax with a "pugon" when an explosion occurred.
Genara Ramayrat, the victim's mother, said her daughter was trapped in the factory. The body of the victim was found in the comfort room, completely burned after a part of the ceiling fell over her.
Factory owner Bryant See expressed sympathy for the Ramayrat family, but said he was grateful that the other employees were safe, although some had sustained minor injuries.
Bondaco estimated the damage to P3 million.
The Fire Protection Bureau declared the fire under control at noon. / ee
