Korean killed, Cebuano injured in separate attacks

IT WAS a bloody Sunday in Cebu City with two separate shooting raids over a few hours, resulting in the death of a Korean citizen and the injury of a Cebuano office manager.

The double incidents, after the ambush-slay of the 71-year-old Junko Hamada, provide new concerns for mayor Tomas Osmeña, mayor of Cebu, when he promised to do something about it.

"I have no doubt that the news of the 71-year-old Japanese company president who was recently killed has its counterparts abroad, I am very worried that people in Cebu will lose their jobs, and we can not stand for a police who still maintains that "Cebu is safe" when murders occur almost every day, I can not name any details yet, but I'm going to do something about it, and I'll do it as soon as possible, "said the mayor in a Facebook post on Sunday evening.

The first shooting incident happened at a hotel in Barangay Mabolo at 6 pm. when hotel staff found the bloody body of the Korean national, Young Ho Lee, in the hallway of the hotel.

Young was found dead with a gunshot wound in the head.

SPO3 Antonio Din, a researcher from the Mabolo police station, said they received a call from the Sunday staff at Prince Court Motel in Barangay Mabolo about a shooting alarm.

Din said the hotel staff identified the Korean nationality as Young Ho Lee found dead in the hallway of the establishment.

"We do not yet know what the motive is to kill the Korean national, and our investigation is still ongoing," Din said in an interview with Cebu Daily News.

Din said, however, that they were investigating four possible suspects in the murder of Lee on the basis of the accounts of the staff of the establishment.

At 19.00 hours another shooting alarm was reported to the police of Cebu City, this time in Sitio Tangkungan Barangay Sambag 1.

The victim was identified as Andrew Jamandre who lived in the area.

The police said the victim was walking to his vehicle when motorcyclists shot him.

Jamandre was shot in the body and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

He survived the attack.

The police recovered four empty grenades of a caliber 0.45 pistol at the crime scene.

The brother of the victim, who asked not to be mentioned, told the police that his brother Jamandre told him that an employee in a company where he worked as a manager would have threatened the victim if he would dismiss him from the company.

Fuente police station officers were still busy investigating the shooting.
