More than just a gift # & # 39; his, an official presidential trip abroad must have a purpose.

That is, in any case, according to Senator Panfilo Lacson, who made a statement on Tuesday, that the military and police officials together with President Rodrigo Duterte would travel to Israel.

"Good will is perhaps a better word, or what the president actually meant, and every official presidential journey abroad must have a purpose that is better than just a gift to everyone in the government," Lacson said in a statement.

During the commemoration of National Heroes' Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on Monday, President Duterte said that he would bring "some of the retiring military and police officers" into his state visit as a "gift" to supposedly serve the country well.

The trip from Duterte to Israel is planned for the first week of September.

But Lacson, also a former head of the Philippine national police (PNP), said that law enforcement agencies already had a mandate to provide good service.

"The reason is clear because it is simple – government officials are always expected to do their best," he emphasized.

"Rewards for the more deserved come in the form of promotions, awards, even a pat on the back," the senator added. / CBB
