Only 30 percent of the Boracay sites can reopen when the target of 26 October is restarted, an official from the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said on Monday.

In a Senate hearing, Secretary of State Epimaco Densing III said that they are targeting about 30 percent of the island's sites to be connected to the sewer system in October and to have their own sewage treatment plants (STP).

"Hopefully" yung 30 percent nakakabit lahat sa sewer pipe on sariling STP (Hopefully the 30 percent will be connected to the sewer pipe and have its own STP), "he said.

But Senator Cynthia Villar, chairman of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee, opposed this goal and said that the tourist spot in Palawan can not be reopened with just a few functional establishments.

"Kung ako presidente, magre-resign after ko. Ang kahihiyan ko sa tao, anim after buwan ko isinara tapos after six months and ilan ang magko-comply?" She said.
(If I were president, I will resign, I will be ashamed of the people, I have closed it for six months, but how much will I meet?)

"We can not open Boracay after ganito (like this one)," Villar said.

The senator has also advised that government officials in charge of rehabilitating Boracay should help local businesses comply with the policy of reopening.

"It is the responsibility of the government to let them understand what we want them to do," Villar said.
