BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has allocated almost 100 million P100 for projects that will help farmers and fishermen of Negrense this year, provincial board member Victor Javellana said recently during the second meeting on food production heroes in the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol.
Javellana said that among the projects to be carried out is the irrigation development of P28 million in nine municipalities, P14.6 million for insurance and a P25 million project for agricultural mechanization.
Javellana, head of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Agricultural Committee, said the crop protection allocation under the Negros First Universal Crop Insurance Program (NFUCIP) will benefit some 16,000 farmers and fishermen, while the farm's mechanization program will help rice farmers in six countries. districts, including two government-run farms.
The provincial administration has also recently adopted a resolution to extend an insurance cover of P7 million to farmers to protect them against the effects of climate change.
