THE ORGANIZATION of Socialized and Economic Housing Developers of the Philippines Inc. (OSHDP) is now in discussion with at least 15 local government units (LGUs) for partnerships in building low-cost housing projects. OSHDP President Marcelino C. Mendoza said in an interview that the proposed partnerships are intended to help cities and municipalities build capacities to provide affordable homes for the low income segment. Among these LGUs is Mandaue City, which has a budget of P1 billion for socialized housing. Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis "Luigi" R. Quisumbing said that so far only P230 million has been used due to a lack of available land for housing. The city recently broke ground for a multistory housing project. Mr. Mendoza said the OSHDP is seeking more LGUs to help accelerate the development of mass housing across the country. – The Freeman
