The body of a killed member of the New People’s Army was found in Barangay Riverside, Isabela, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, December 1, after a rebel surrendered to authorities.
Authorities identified the murdered insurgent as Randy Garsola, a member of the NPA’s Central Negros 1 Front.
Captain Joseph Partidas, head of the Isabela police station, said Garsola’s remains were recovered after one of the recently surrendered NPA members, “Ka Ray,” told authorities where the victim was buried.
Partidas said, based on Ka Ray’s statement, Garsola told his comrades he wanted to see his family. However, the rebellious leaders are said to have declined his request and he had to be executed over fears of the NPA leadership that Garsola would reveal their location to the authorities.
Partidas said Ka Ray witnessed Garsola being allegedly murdered in the neighboring town of La Libertad in Negros Oriental. His remains were then taken to Barangay Riverside in Isabela and buried in a shallow grave.
The Philippine National Police-Scene of the Crime Operatives (PNP-SOCO) will conduct a DNA test to determine if the remains they recovered are indeed from Garsola. (TDE)
