Carlo Biado was so close, but so far managed to win gold in the WPA Players Championship 2018 held at Griff Billiards in Las Vegas, Nevada, Philippine time on Sunday afternoon.

The only Filipino to the left of the four who made it to the Round of 16 was one rack away, 8-5 from the title before the Taiwanese Kevin Cheng withdrew to force a sudden Death Rack where Biado finally fell, 11-12 to end up silver.

Cheng briefly took the lead, 9-8, to complete a four-on-no rack run, before Biado cleared two straight racks and again meticulously approached, 10-9 in the extended win-by-two match.

The Taiwanese and Filipino cur artists exchanged leads again, eventually they tied each other up at 11 each to make a winner-take-all rack.

Cheng excluded Biado in the final frame to complete the amazing come-from-behind victory for the WPA Players Championship crown.

Biado, the world no. 3-ranked player now has the chance to bounce back on his heart-wrenching loss in the US Open next week.
