Portraits of the signatories of the August agreements removed from the shipyard

Activists of the Democracy-Defense Committee suspended portraits of signatories of agreements, including, among others, Lech Wałęsa, Anna Walentynowicz and Tadeusz Mazowiecki at the gate of the Gdansk shipyard on the 38th anniversary of the signing of the August Accords. The photo's had the words "Do not jump". Shortly before the arrival of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President Andrzej Duda on the shipyard, the portraits were removed by trade union members.

On Friday, the 38th anniversary of the agreement was signed in Gdańsk on 31 August 1980. Lech Wałęsa celebrated it together with the Committee for the Defense of Democracy. Divorced parties were held by Solidarność together with President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Even before the start of the celebrations, attended by the chief officials, at the gate No. 2, leading to the Gdansk shipyard, members of the KOD hung portraits with the images of Lech Wałęsa, Tadeusz Mazowiecki, Jacek Kuroń, Anna Walentynowicz, Lech Kaczyński, Andrzej Gwiazda and Joanna Sterren and Adam Michnik.

Some photos are marked with the "Do not jump" signature.

The celebrations with the participation of the president and the prime minister began with the laying of flowers at the Monument for the fallen shipyard workers. After that, the gate number 2 of the Gdańsk shipyard had to be opened symbolically.

It happened after hours. 15. Then there were no portraits on the gate. They were removed by trade union representatives.

The port number 2 of the shipyard is registered in the monument register and has been marked accordingly.

– This stamp means that you can not legally hang anything at the gates of the shipyard of Gdansk, except what was and is in the register of monuments – said Karol Guzikiewicz of the Solidarity of the factory, explaining why the portraits were removed.

Celebrations under the slogan "Agreement started in Gdansk" with the participation of Lech Wałęsa began on Friday after noon. 9.

Former leader Solidarity and former president, together with his son Jarosław Wałęsa, candidate for president of Gdańsk, PO-chef Grzegorz Schetyna and chairman of Modern Katarzyna Lubnauer, participated in a joint press conference.

In the afternoon, at 4.30 pm, a march started for the court in Gdańsk. COD together with the municipality of Gdansk and its establishment. Arkadiusz Rybicki crossed the streets of Śródmieście and stopped at the European Solidarity Center.

At 18.00 the march "Droga do Wolności" ("The road to freedom") started in court. Lech Wałęsa, Małgorzata Rybicka, Bogdan Borusewicz, Aleksander Hall, Paweł Adamowicz and Radomir Szumełda appeared in it.

In the historic health and safety hall of the Gdańsk shipyard, the meeting of the Gdańsk region, NSZZ "Solidarność", was held on Friday to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the signing of the August agreements. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the chairman of the National Committee of NSZZ "Solidarity" Piotr Duda. Scholarships of school youth from the NSZZ "Solidarity" Scholarship Fund in Gdańsk were also presented.

After the meeting of the council, President Andrzej Duda filed flowers with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at 3 pm in front of gate number 2 of the Gdańsk shipyard.

Then in the Basilica of St. At 4 pm a solemn Holy Mass was celebrated with the participation of the president and the prime minister. Andrzej Duda spoke in her course.

After the solemn mass, flowers were placed under a plaque to commemorate the founders of the Solidarity of Education. The festivities end at 8 pm on the square near the health and safety center, where the concert "End of the summer with solidarity" will take place.

The 38th anniversary of the signing of the August Accords

38 years ago, on August 31, 1980 at 5 pm, an agreement was reached in the BHP hall of the Gdańsk Shipyard between the Government Committee and the Inter-Enterprise Strike Commission, which represented more than 700 branches from all over Poland.

The government delegation agreed, among others, for the establishment of new, independent, autonomous trade unions, the right to strike, the construction of the monument for the victims of December 1970, broadcasts of Sunday Mass. on Polish radio and restriction of censorship. A provision was also passed that new trade unions would recognize the leading role of PZPR in the state.
