Fewer trains, more delays and failures at the top of users' complaints – Observer

Reducing the number of coaches and trains, delays, old training courses, frequent disruptions, closed stations, lack of safety and investments in the railways are the main complaints of train users on different railways. In the Linha do Oeste, between Sintra and Figueira da Foz, mayors and the users' committee warned of frequent train suppression and replacement by buses, loss of compositions, degradation of rolling stock, reduction of schedules, lack of information to passengers, closed stations and lack of staff.

Users demand, in the short term, a wider range of schedules and the use by the CP – Comboios de Portugal of the compositions 1400 to replace damaged compositions and, in the long term, the modernization of the rule , promised decades ago by the successive governments.

In Santarém, in the Northern Line, the Movement of Users of Public Services (MUSP) identified the state of the railways, safety, maintenance and requalification of stations, embarkation sites and surrounding areas.

The main concern is "the route between Santarém and Entroncamento, a route of about 35 kilometers that has never been intervened to support higher speeds of the rolling stock," said Lusa Manuel Soares.

Manuel Soares also referred to the necessity of "requalification of stations, namely Santarém, Mato de Miranda and others", as well as the "embarkation places and parking places of the Riachos, Rossio stations south of the Tagus and others leaving."

The representative of the Commission of Users of the Cascais line, José Medinas, told Lusa that the suppression of trains and the use of trains with fewer carriages at peak hours travel on the line Cascais-Lisbon.

"We often have failure situations because, in our view, CP & # 39; s lack of investment in the line. […] What is certain is that often accidents happen and that the company that deals with the issue of maintenance of the line has done authentic miracles with the compositions that are 50 and so, 60 years and this can not continue, because we users and we want Cascais line to work fully, "he said.

According to José Medinas, it is possible to observe daily the "lack of safety and conditions" on board the carriages, which also indicates that there are situations of "users who faint" as a result of the heat felt in the trains.

A manifest before the end of the concession of Fertagus to exploit rail transport and the integration of the service in the CP was created by the South Sea Transport Users Commission (CUTMS), with the support of 200 entities. "The most obvious problem is even the lack of investment, we think it is urgent," says Marco Sargento of CUTMS.

Marco Sargento pointed out that there are several proposals on the Setúbal peninsula, from the private operator Fertagus to the public operator CP, which have "very different realities, both in the North-South rail, in the Sado line, and in long-distance trains" .

"In the Sado line, for example, we have a job that has been reclassified, but we still have very old and worn rolling stock, without conditions, already in suburban transport in the Axis Railway North-South, which is controlled by the Fertagus, we have modern compositions and stations with some problems, but only a few years old, and then we have very expensive prices, "he added. In Alentejo, in the Beja / White House section, which makes the connection from Beja to Lisbon possible, Intercidades does not circulate, because the part is not electrified and CP works with a fleet of diesel engines older than 50 years.

The service "is humiliating, deteriorated, embarrassing and disgusting again", Lusa Florival Baiôa, a spokesperson for the citizens' movement "Beja Merece +", is actively involved in reporting problems such as defects in the "old and uncomfortable" car & # 39; s, delays, deletions and replacements for transport in bus or train taxis & # 39; s.

"The way in which passengers are treated by the CP creates an uprising," he said and recalled the "serious" case of passengers who had to be assisted by firefighters and GNR after a car breakdown that took place on the 3rd of this month " the middle of the line "between Alvito and Vila Nova de Baronia.

Users and trade unions have complained about the suppression of trains and the instability of schedules along the Algarve line, where about two dozen movements were suppressed in the first two days of August, according to the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS) ).

The deletions are mainly due to "problems with the rolling stock" and "failures" and have led to "road transport" or [dos passageiros] for other trains, "said FECTRANS, who held protests near the Faro station to warn of these problems.
