Toyota is investing approximately $ 500 million with Uber under a cooperation agreement for the production of vehicles at great strength, according to the Japanese group on Tuesday.
The agreement, which would increase reports the Uber value of $ 72 billion, aims to bring autonomous transportation to a large-scale mobility service, Toyota said.
The technology of the two companies will be integrated into specially designed Toyota vehicles and will be implemented on the Uber platform, with the launch of the first pilot for 2021.
"The deal is the first of its kind for Uber and underlines our commitment to bringing world-class technologies to the Uber network," said Group Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi.
Uber stopped his stand-alone car program after a hit that killed a woman on a street in Arizona last March.
Last month, the San Francisco-based company returned to the program by putting stand-alone cars on the road, but at all times with a person behind the wheel.
The tests allow Uber to collect data on different scenarios that will be simulated in computer simulations, and to develop more accurate maps for vehicles.
