Oprah Winfrey's mother, Vernita Lee, died last Thursday, aged 22, at the age of 83. The family confirmed the information on the TMZ website, but did not reveal the cause of death.
Vernita was born in 1935 and had Oprah at the age of 19 in 1954. At that time she worked as a maid in a different state and could not raise her daughter, so her maternal grandmother was responsible for education until the age of six. when Oprah went to live with them mother. Vernita also had two other children. Patricia was adopted when she was a baby. She met Oprah in 2010. Jeffrey died in 1989 as a result of AIDS.
