Experts and researchers from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro on Thursday (16) released the discovery of a virus related to chikungunya, a disease transmitted by the Aedes mosquito.

The symptoms are similar: joint pain, muscle pain, fever and fatigue. The pain can be prolonged for a long time.

Until that time, the Mayaro was a virus that spread in the jungle, but now it is already in urban areas. Research began four years ago in the state and came to the conclusion that this virus is a kind of family member of the chikungunya.

According to researchers, there are confirmed cases of people infected with the virus in Niterói, in the metropolitan region, and none of the people were in the Amazon.

The virus can also be transmitted by the Aedes, but there is another channel, the Culex suggests.
