The station is located 3.5 kilometers south of Al-Haram Al-Makki and started working in 1413H with an area of ​​(7190) m 2, where electricity is generated by (8) back-up generators at the site.These generators work automatically via a special computer in the station called (MV1), which in turn detects the interruption of the sources of power for the Mecca mosque as a source for the operation of generators to secure the power of the Great Mosque.

The total capacity of the installation is 32 MW, divided over eight generators, the capacity of one generator is 4 megawatts and the power is supplied by the station via four outputs of 1250 amperes.

During the time needed to generate energy, the major devices in the Great Mosque, such as lighting, microwave ovens, etc., are taken to the UPS system.
