Captain Marvel: a nice introduction

Summary, Captain Marvel tells the story of Carol Danvers who will become one of the most powerful superheroes in the universe when the earth proves the start of a galactic war between two alien races

The rating: 8/10

She has waited a long time and she is finally here. She is the first Marvel hero to receive her own film. And if everyone thought it was Black Widow The honor of this honor is Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel, who chose the eponymous studios for this role, oh so important, since the character must also be at the center of the Avengers' ultimate fight against Thanos. But don't go too far, and come back to this first appearance. Was it worth the wait? Yes (although the film is far from perfect).

Yes, because the character of Captain Marvel is great, a heroine as we love them, quick of understanding and who doesn't have his tongue in his pocket, who has a big heart but never gets intimidated, who doesn't give up and who doesn't blasts loudly. In short, a badass whose true super power seems to be his power of character, reminiscent of another "Captain" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But far from creating a cliché, writers and directors place great importance in the development of the character and the explanation of his personal motives. She is not only a hero, or a woman, or a pilot, or a warrior. She is all these things, and much more, and she discovers bit by bit through those around her, and especially in contact with her best friend, Maria Rambeau, beautifully played by Lashana Lynch who brings a certain emotional weight to the film .

Yes and especially because Brie Larson is perfect for this character, who perfectly embodies them. There is no doubt that she is Captain Marvel. She brings to the film a game full of nuances and amazing humor. Moreover, his alchemy with Samuel L. Jackson breaks the screen and gives the film tunes from buddy movie straight from the 90s, especially that humor is particularly successful. The rest of the cast is just as interesting, with a special mention for Ben Mendelsohn who, despite the three tons of makeup that covers his face, manages to make his character Talos the real good surprise of the film. I will not say more about it.

So what are the weak points of this Captain Marvel ? The biggest complaint is that he does not do enough justice to his character. Captain Marvel, the heroine, has a lot of personality, while the film dedicated to her is tragically generic. We don't feel the 90s except for the few songs playing in the background or the few references here and there (cars, hairstyles, etc.). The plot is also fairly simple, except for a nice little twist that will baffle fans of the comics. In general, the film is the antithesis of what Captain Marvel himself is: a work that is certainly effective, but without risk, poor in originality and taste, fortunately saved by a larger than life-sized heroine. Anyway, it is certain that Captain Marvel has a bright future ahead of him and that the future of the MCU is assured. Must see for superhero fans.
