
From the opening of the exhibition "140 years of the Military Museum", which presents many items for the first time
Many items that were found in the exhibition "140 years of the Military Museum" have rarely been exhibited until now. For the first time in honor of the anniversary, the prehistoric spears, the 10th-century ring, Russian chest emblems, cossack flags, costumes from Bosnia, dolma that belonged to the participant of the Herzegovian uprising Arseny Ivanov Miskin, the English Order of St. Michael and George on the chain, the Ordinary Star of the Duke of Radomir Putnik, the uniform of the Austro-Hungarian clerk, as well as some of the original photographs.
Opening of the exhibition, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defense, Aleksandar Zivkovic, stressed that the Military Museum has always been recognized as an important segment in the culture and memory of the nation and that it presented the army and its smugglers tradition in the eternal struggle for freedom through his presentations and exhibitions and independence.
– A rich history of this cultural symbol of our city obliges us to continue the tradition of appreciating, caring for and preserving all that the Military Museum will represent in the future, so that it would remain a modern museum institution – Živković concluded.
Speaking of the historical significance of the Kalemegdan Museum, the head of the Military Museum, Lieutenant Colonel Gradimir Matic reminded that it was the oldest cultural institution in the Ministry of Defense and the army of Serbia and that the exhibition, which is open today is, chronologically structured by periods, that is, collections and personalities illustrate development of the museum.

– Introduction to the exhibition is devoted to the Obrenovic dynasty, which founded the Military Museum and the Karadjordhev dynasty, which opened the first permanent exhibition, he added, adding that the exhibition tells six thematic units about the development of weapons , fighting methods, medieval Serbia and Europe, Serbian uprisings, the Principality and the Kingdom of Serbia, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the Second World War and the SFRJ, as well as those who marked certain periods – said Lieutenant Colonel Matić.
The exhibition is the result of a teamwork that was coordinated by museum consultant Anđelija Radović, who included all members of the Military Museum collective.
On the occasion of the Military Museum and the Jubilee Day, the ceremony academy will be held at the Garda House in Topčider tonight, attended by Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin.
