At the beginning of November 2017, the Serbian Ministry of Health has started the preparation of a proposal for a strategy for the prevention of HIV infection and lace for the period 2018-2025. I follow the action plan for the period 2018-2021.
This strategy was approved by the Government of the Republic of Serbia in June 2018.
"The Opti goal of the strategy is to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and to reduce the death of AIDS and improve the quality of life of people living with HIV," Vesna Knjegini said at a press conference.
She stated that the Ministry of Health, together with Dr. Milan Jovanovi Batut Institute for Public Health and with the support of France, made a proposal for a preventive program and applied for funds from the Global Fund.
"The Global Fund has accepted the program, so € 1.1 million will be reserved for this project, co-financed by the Ministry of Health over a three-year period of around € 500,000," Knjeginieva adds.
Every week three to four people are infected with HIV in Serbia, and about 12 people die of AIDS every year, said the director of the Union of the Serbian Organization for the Protection of People with HIV and AIDS Vladimir anti.
"Serbia has a duty to prevent AIDS from dying so that anyone who is diagnosed with testing can receive treatment immediately," Anti added.
According to data from the Institute of Public Health "Milan Jovanovi Batut", from 1984 until the end of 2018 in Serbia, 3,854 people infected with HIV were registered, of which 1,967 people were sick and 1,255 people died.
"In the course of 2018, 179 people infected with HIV were discovered, 62 people were recently infected with AIDS and 24 people died in the past year," said Violeta Raki of Batut.
Rakieva adds that half of all newly discovered in 2018 from the territory of the city of Belgrade, and that among the newly discovered, 14 times more men are registered than one.
The Day of Remembrance of HIV-infected people is celebrated this year in Serbia under the slogan "Knowledge for the health and rights of people with HIV".
