In the first nine months of 2018, Mercator Group sales revenues increased by 5.4% compared to the same period last year, while EBITDA reached EUR 86.8 million, 24.7% more than in the previous year. The operating result in the first nine months more than doubled and amounts to EUR 35.8 million, which is EUR 21.8 million better than the results in the same period of the previous year. Poslovni sistem Mercator d.d. also posted a positive EBITDA with an increase of 3.5% compared to the previous year.
The parent company Mercator Group achieved a net profit of 8.9 million euros in the first nine months of 2018, which is 19.4 million euros more than the result achieved in the same period of the previous year. "Operating income improved considerably and amounted to EUR 35.8 million in the first nine months of 2018, an increase of EUR 21.8 million compared to the same period last year. Mercator Group generated EUR 1,617.3 million in sales, up 1.6%, " said Tomislav Čizmić, chairman of the board of Mercator Group.
The growth of the company's profit is the result of a new strategy for the development, introduction of new concepts of facilities and a better competitive position of services in the core activities, in the retail sector, which accounts for 78.7% of the total income. Excellent operating results had an impact on Mercator's debt reduction to EUR 738.3 million, which is 11.2% or EUR 93.3 million less than the debt recorded in the same period of 2017.
Slovenia and Serbia, where the Group posted an increase of 0.8% and 1.1% respectively, compared to last year, remain the main markets for Mercator Group's operations.
Mercator continues to focus on consumer needs, a modern sales environment in a large number of locations, an improved and enriched offering of daily consumer products and strengthening relationships with local and regional suppliers, with a view to local and regional development.
