Family of 7 rescued from Woodlands condo fire fueled by e-bike explosion, Singapore News & Top Stories

SINGAPORE – Authorities saved a family of seven people after an electric bicycle had exploded, causing a fire in their home last Saturday night (August 18).

In response to questions, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said it responded to the incident on the eighth floor of 34 Woodlands Drive 16 around 21.35.

SCDF said that the fire, which involved an e-bike, was extinguished using a hose reel. A person was taken to the Khoo Teck Puat hospital.

The Straits Times understands that the family was home when the explosion occurred in the unit on the eighth floor of Forestville Executive Condominium.

The cause of the explosion is unknown.

Among the saved were a 60-year-old woman and three children between three and eight years old.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, SCDF said.

Last month, charging an e-bike was identified as the likely cause behind a fire that flooded a terraced house in Little India.

On August 14, also in Woodlands, an e-scooter caught fire after sparks flew when the plug was pulled out of the charging socket.

According to SCDF's figures released in February, the number of e-scooter firing increased to 40 last year, up from a year earlier.
