Inspiring teacher honors: Mr. Sabar lent me a listening ear when I walked away from home

In 2017, Secuaire Vier was what Syukri described as "a year of disaster", which has to do with problems with family, academics and time management.

The student Spectra Secondary School finally came first, thanks to Mr. Sabar, who was a mainstay for Syukri.

Here is the submission of Syukri for the Samsung-Stomp inspiring teacher prizes:

"This is my story.

"As the first generation of Spectran I have known Mr. Sabar since I joined the Spectra Secondary School in 2014. In the past I lived in Sembawang and every weekday I saw Mr. Sabar always cycling to the mosque to perform sunrise prayers.

"He always approached me first when he saw me, we always greeted each other and wished each other a good day, but that was part of my daily routine to start my day.

"Mr Sabar is a loyal, caring and kind-hearted teacher who was always very patient when he taught his students.

"As an English teacher, he makes his lessons and lessons easy to give the students insight, although he used to teach at a Junior College, teaching at a Normal Technical school is very different, but he never gave up.

"In 2017 I was in Secondary 4 and it was the year of stressful preparation for the N-levels.

"As announced in the timetable, Sabar would be our teacher in English Well, the educational environment would be very different from our previous teacher, but hey, different teachers teach different methods and slowly we will get there.

"Well, 2017 was my disaster year with my family, studies and time, I could not concentrate." I used to skip the school during the first term because I had too much stress and depression.

"At that time I had to move from Bedok to Choa Chu Kang and I had to prepare to pack something in. Because the distance between my house and school was very far away, I sometimes skipped the school to rest.

"But with a huge argument between me and my family until I walked away from home to my family member's place, I could not concentrate on my studies.

"Mr. Sabar noticed the changes in my behavior, he told me to meet him after class and we had a 1-on-1 session, I told him about my current situation. He knew I was leaving home.

"I only needed a listening ear and he was the one who could be with me to deal with my problems." At night I told him that I would really give my life. "I was so depressed that I could not talk someone who could calm me down.

"He told me this:

& # 39; Be patient. Pray to God that you want to end these messy situations. This year is the most important year of your life and I want you to keep fighting until you find the right path. & # 39;

We continued chatting 1-to-1 after class and even gave me some snacks for lunch.

"Even then I always looked forward to his lesson, although I had no faith in getting my N levels, he taught me a few simple steps to get my English.

"The N-levels were coming and he asked me privately after class if I had more problems, I said it went well and he said:

& # 39; Do not give up in life. This is just a test to see how you can manage this. I know you told me you wanted to quit school. Never think about this. If you want to have a better career, want a great family, often go to school. Every day you learn different things and you do not have to hurry to learn. Slowly but surely you will be fine. & # 39;

"He knows that I am going to the Rapid Transit Technology course in ITE and that I came from the retail class and he also told me:

& # 39; Going to a technical school of learning a course in retail is a big impact. There are more opportunities for work, especially in the railway sector that people like you need.

& # 39; Go and reach your dream. Remember what you have learned in Spectra and ITE and put that positive mentality and skills at work. Do not forget to remember those who helped you to tackle the problems and your studies. Because these are the people who help your dream and future. & # 39;

"Now that I have been in ITE College West in year 1 and am studying Nitec in Rapid Transit Technology, I would like to thank all my teachers who helped me make my dream come true, especially Mr. Sabar, who helped me and took his time to having a private session just to talk and discuss my problems, he made me confidently get my N-levels and let me share some of his positive feelings.

"Sir Sabar, together we can!"

When he was approached by Stomp, Sabar said that he was "honored and humiliated" by the nomination of Syukri.
