Kevin Kwan case throws spotlights on NS defaulters and what they do to prevent them from serving, Singapore News & Top Stories

The news that the Singapore-born writer Kevin Kwan has failed to comply with his national service obligations has kept the issue of the evaders in mind and what they are doing to prevent them from serving.

M. Kwan, who wrote the best-selling book that inspired the film Crazy Rich Asians, is classified by Defense (Mindef) as a defaulter and can be arrested if he returns here. Mindef said last Wednesday that the 44-year-old in 1990 could not register for the national service (NS), despite messages sent to his overseas address.
