SINGAPORE – Two girls claiming to be ill-treated at their employer's Bukit Timah house have been deported by the Department of Human Resources (MOM), which is currently investigating their claims.
One of the maids told the website of citizen journalism Stomp last Tuesday (August 14) that she had slept with another girl in the backyard outside her employer's home in Sian Tian Avenue since July 31st.
According to the maid, her employer had said that their bedrooms were not ready.
The 40-year-old, who said she was in service in June, said the family had just moved to their new home.
The maid also made several complaints against her employer regarding her duties, working hours, food surcharges and doctor visits, among others.
In response to questions, MOM said on Monday that her officers immediately inspected the household to verify the claims of the maid after being made aware of the case by Stomp.
Research is currently under way, MOM said.
"MOM also removed the two foreign domestic workers from the household," it added.
In her statement, MOM said that servants who have problems with their job should raise this with their employer.
If they can not reach a solution, the maid must report the matter to MOM at 6438-5122.
She can also contact the Center for Domestic Employees at 1800-2255-233 for help.
Those who have information about foreign homeworkers can also file a report with MOM.
All information received will be handled strictly confidentially, according to MOM.
