A teenage girl was brutally abused for about 12 hours, causing her a fracture in her spine and extensive soft tissue injuries that led to kidney failure.
The three men then left the battered 16-year-old girl at the empty deck of a block of flats where the good Samaritans got up to help her.
An attacker, Aminnuddin Siregar Aminullah Siregar, 32, was sentenced yesterday to 10 years in prison and 12 strokes of the stick.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of the use of a weapon to severely injure the girl and an indictment of criminal intimidation. He also admitted two costs for drug use.
The cases involving the two other alleged assailants – Muhammad Khalis Khairi, 27, and Rushdi Rusli, 28 – are still under discussion. The girl was Aminnuddin's girlfriend and she can not be named because of a gag order to protect her identity.
The court heard that Aminnuddin asked the girl around 19:00 on April 20 last year to go to his apartment on the ninth floor of a block in Telok Blangah Crescent, because he was still not satisfied with a dispute between them before. Court documents did not reveal any details of the dispute.
He scolded the girl when she turned up before using a 75 cm long metal pole to strike her.
Deputy Prosecutor Kumaresan Gohulabalan said, "When she tried to leave the unit, Aminnuddin pulled her back to the living room. Aminnuddin hit her too, slamming and slamming her during this ordeal, which lasted about an hour, house at the moment."
Rushdi and Khalis arrived at 22.30 at the request of Aminnuddin and allegedly joined the attack, using the post to strike her. The men also dragged the girl back to the living room when she tried to leave the unit.
At one point the girl ran to a bathroom, locked himself up and tried to scream for help through a window. When she stepped outside, Aminnuddin put the end of a knife on her neck and said, "If you do not keep silent, I will kill you."
Weakened after her beating, the girl fell to the floor. DPAR Kumaresan said: "Aminnuddin then told Rushdi that they had to throw her out of the window, Aminnuddin and Rushdi tried to lift her body off the ground, but were unable to do so."
The attack lasted until about 7 am the day before the men took her to the empty deck of the block.
After passers-by had arrived, she was quickly taken to the Singapore General Hospital and spent three days in intensive care.
The police arrested Aminnuddin on April 22 last year and his urine was found to contain traces of methamphetamine. He disappeared when he was charged in court and received an arrest warrant against him.
Agents succeeded in following Aminnuddin and he was arrested again at a hotel in Geylang on December 12 last year. He failed in another drug test when methamphetamine was detected for the second time in his urine.
