The city council of Quezon praised the choir group Galaw Awit Ngiti Arte Palakpak of the QC Polytechnic University (GANAP-QCPU) after winning three silver prizes at the recent Singapore International Choral Festival 2018.
The group, led by its artistic director, Dr Alexis Patacsil, received the recognition after the ceremony to raise the flagship in the city hall of Quezon last Monday.
GANAP-QCPU won three silver awards each in the Mixed Voices under 25 category, Folklore Open category, and Musica Sacra Open in the International Choir Festival held at the National University of Singapore from 19 to 22 July.
According to Patacsil, the group competed with the more than 60 participating choirs from different countries in Asia, Europe and North America.
"This is the first time that GANAP-QCPU has participated and we are fortunate that in our first game, nanalo kami.Plus, international pony to kaya we are really proud," he said in a statement.
He added that GANAP-QCPU was the only theater group in the competition and the smallest with only 20 singers, mostly composed of scholars from Quezon City.
Also participated in the competition were Los Contantes de Manila and Cordillera Chamber Singers who also won prizes for the country.
