SINGAPORE – Two new cases of coronavirus were confirmed on Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 2), bringing Singapore’s total to 58,230.
They are both imported cases that were posted on a home message upon arrival in Singapore.
No new cases were announced in the community and from workers’ dormitories.
More details will be announced on Wednesday evening.
On Tuesday, MOH said a cleaner working in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 3 tested positive for Covid-19.
The patient was the only community case reported Tuesday.
She is 66 years old and lives in Yishun with her husband, who is unemployed, MOH said.
She tested positive on Monday and was asymptomatic during the test. Her infection was detected through MOH’s biweekly routine testing (RRT) of front-line workers.
The patient was taken to hospital after her test was positive.
Her serological test was negative, likely indicating a current infection, the ministry said.
MOH added that she wears personal protective equipment at work, including a face mask, face shield, gloves, and an apron, and that her previous smears as part of RRT were negative.
Epidemiological studies are underway. All of her identified close contacts, including her family members and colleagues, have been isolated and quarantined, and will be tested at the beginning and end of their quarantine period.
The other locally transferred case on Tuesday was a patient from a foreign workers’ dormitory, the first case after 20 consecutive days without it.
The patient was detected through proactive surveillance, MOH said. All of his close contacts in the dormitory and at his workplace have been quarantined.
He was one of 10 new coronavirus cases reported Tuesday.
The remaining eight patients were imported on Tuesday. It concerned five holders of a work permit from Indonesia and Myanmar, a holder of a work card from Japan, a holder of a special card from Indonesia and a one-year-old child from Russia with a long-term visit card.
They were all informed of a stay at home in special facilities upon arrival in Singapore.
Seven of the eight were asymptomatic and tested positive while submitting their notification.
The special card holder, a 43-year-old Indonesian man, received complaints on Sunday and tested positive on Monday.
On Tuesday, MOH also added two food stalls at Changi Airport Terminal 3 – Kopitiam and Heavenly Wang – to the list of places Covid-19 patients visited while still contagious.
The Department provides the list of locations that contagious Covid-19 patients have visited for at least 30 minutes and the times they have visited to allow people who were in those places at the same time to monitor their health closely for two weeks from the date of their visit to follow. .

MOH has said close contacts would have been notified and there is no need to avoid these places as they would have been cleaned if necessary.
With five cases discharged on Tuesday, 58,124 patients have fully recovered from the disease.
The number of unlinked cases in the community remains low, with a total of five in the past week.
A total of 29 patients remained in hospital on Tuesday, none in intensive care, while 31 patients recovered in community facilities.
Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 tested positive died from other causes.
