Apple’s Airpods Pro are named Which? Product of the Year, after the wireless bluetooth earbuds were praised for improving “to the point of near perfection”.
Testers at the non-profit consumer group have reduced and tested 3,500 products launched between September 2018 and September 2020 to 50, based on exceptional innovation, durability or value for money.
The whole company was then given the opportunity to vote for the top 10.
The jury concluded that it was “remarkable that small earplugs can create such a versatile, powerful and spacious sound” and welcomed the introduction of a rubber earplug to create a more secure fit.
Harry Rose, editor of which one? magazine, said, “Apple’s new Airpods Pro beat some fantastic contenders by taking a product that was already exceptional and improving it to the point of near perfection.”
Runner-up was the Halo Capsule, a recyclable cordless vacuum cleaner that comes with enough capacity and extra disposable bags to fill a bathtub with dust.
Kia Soul’s all-electric car, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G smartphone and LG 48-inch OLED TV also made the top five.
A cheap £ 12 kettle came in at number 47 for its simple and stylish appearance and “phenomenal” value for money, despite experts finding it a bit noisy.
The iRobot Roomba S9 robot vacuum cleaner emptying its own dust bag at number 42, and Sony’s pivoting selfie display ZV-1 camera at number 50 were among the more quirky items.
“It’s a daunting task to sift through the thousands of products tested each year and bring it down to just 50 – but this year’s list shows the very best in high-tech gadgets, advancements in durability and good value products that show up there. are great buys out there for anyone willing to research, ”added Mr. Rose.
