Volkswagen (VW) has signed a letter of intent to build a car factory in the country in connection with a visit to Angela Merkel's German office in Nigeria. On Friday, a spokesperson for the German government informed Abuja, the capital of the country.

The value of the project between the Volkswagen Group South Africa and the government of this West African Republic is not yet known.

During the negotiations about the Merkel office in Ghana, Volkswagen representatives signed the same framework agreement to build the same assembly plant. On Friday it was also agreed that the central banks of both countries would grant loans to agricultural companies.

Nigeria is one of the West African countries that have left behind for ten decades in recent months. They usually ended up in the Libyan refugee camps where they wanted to reach Europe.

The public is alarmed by the report based on the analysis of World Poverty Clock by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, that people in the country mourn in particular for massive corruption and a shortage of job opportunities. That is why more than a third of 190 million people consider migration. The report says Nigeria has already overtaken India in the number of people living in poverty.
