A promised social measure, all primary school pupils and pre-school children get free meals, have not yet passed the legislative process.
Lunch for students paid by the state is no longer free from September. As far as the TASR is concerned, the spokesman for the Smer-SD party, Ján Mažgút, said that the measure is currently being developed at the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic.
"The measure will come into effect immediately after the end of the standard legislative process," Mažgút said. With the social provision that would apply to free meals for all primary school pupils and preschool children in kindergartens, the Smer-SD government came in early June.
€ 1.20 per day for each child
According to its chairman, Robert Fico, every child of the state should receive 1.20 euros a day for meals. This measure would cost SR 106 million, Fico said in July.
Fico also recalled that the so-called "social diets cost around € 10 million per year, this item is a new measure.
In the school year 2017/2018, according to Martinka Lubyová, the Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport (nominated for the SNS), more than 555,000 students were eaten during school meals.
