The Slovak nation is peaceful, modest and hard-working, but at crucial moments it can stand for core values, for its rights, for its freedom.
On the occasion of the regional celebration of the 74th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) that on Saturday at the SNP memorial at the peak of Jankov Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini said.
"We stand in places where not only the SNP monument stands, but also places where bloody battles fought 74 years ago, and where Slovaks fought with a rifle in their hands against the spread of fascist fighters, even though there are many knew that the battle was not won in the first place, they found the strength ", emphasized the prime minister.
As he argued, we should behave in such a way that we only have friends around us to protect the values and so we do not have to get up with a weapon in hand to protect themlike our old fathers and fathers had to do. "I have serious doubts whether it was necessary to get up today or if as many people as in 1944 had the courage to find it," he added.
Regional celebrations of the 74th anniversary of the SNP began in the afternoon in Jankov Vrch in the cadastral area of the village Uhrovec in the district Bánovce nad Bebravou through historical demonstrations of the II. world war. After the death of the Immortal Regiment, the prime minister, together with the members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, representatives of the TSK, the local government and the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Prisoners of War landed on the SNP monument. Celebrations continue with cultural programs and culminate in the evening by lighting the fireplace.
