Paris introduces radical news.
From 7 October, the city center will be closed for traffic on the first Sunday of the month. The Paris City Hall announced this initiative at the end of last week.
The area called Paris Respire is located in most of the area I, II, III. and IV. circuit. The ban on car transport is valid from 10 am to 6 pm. Only busy traffic junctions – such as the Sébastopol Boulevard or the Seine River Seaport – are exempt.
The new measure is the result of an agreement between the municipal councils of individual districts in Paris, social associations and activists and the prefecture of the police in Paris, according to the Paris City Hall.
The Paris respiratory initiative was launched in 2003. Until now, however, it was focused on individual circuits. In 20 districts in different parts of Paris car traffic was forbidden during weekends and holidays.
