Terrible audit results in France: 840 bridges may collapse in the coming years

According to the published findings, it is necessary to carry out repairs on a third of a total of 12,000 bridges, which are in the public administration in France. About seven percent of these bridges are in the status of "risk of collapse" . This could happen in the coming years as long as current expenses remain at the same level.

Paris presented the summary results of this audit in July, but took the news after the motorway bridge in the Italian city of Janova collapsed on Tuesday at least 43 people died. The government of the French President Emmanuel Macron has previously promised to make additional infrastructure expenditures, accused the current situation of his predecessors and emphasized the problem of traffic congestion and increasingly extreme weather conditions. The audit does not apply to the thousands of other bridges in France that are operated by private companies or local authorities that are forced to reduce budgetary expenditure over the years
